HOME OF THE HOLLYBURN HUSKIES
We hope everyone is having an enjoyable and safe summer!

We are ramping up for 3 full weeks of hockey camps which started yesterday. A few spots are still available so please check on Game Time if you haven't registered yet.

2020/21 HOCKEY SEASON PLANNING DURING A PANDEMIC

We are currently in viaSport's "Transition Measures" phase. All of our hockey camps as well as the minor hockey season will be in accordance with all Covid safety guidelines. For Hollyburn Hockey, this means continuing to adhere to our Covid Safety Plan key points:

  • Sanitize hands upon entry into the Club;
  • Enter through Sports Entrance no more than 15 minutes before the start of the session;
  • LARGE ICE: Players exit through the west doors of the arena - by the Zamboni doors beside the fitness parking;
  • SMALL ICE: Players exit through the administration doors on the east-side of the building just before the round-about;
  • 2-metre physical distancing is mandatory for programs and lessons;
  • Spectators still are not permitted (unless for programs with players 7 years of age or under whereby parents are factored into the capacity numbers);
  • Players need to arrive in full gear and should not be putting on equipment other than for skates and helmets at the Club.

The Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association (PCAHA) has created a plan to safely deliver a full 2020/21 minor hockey season.

PCAHA's Return to Play memo can be found HERE

PCAHA's "A Safe Return" Newsletter can be found HERE

A plan has been created and we are currently waiting for announcements from viaSport and the provincial health authorities to determine what the hockey season will look like after Thanksgiving weekend. We are awaiting confirmation on roster sizes and the number of kids permitted on the ice beyond October. THIS WILL HAVE A DIRECT IMPACT ON WHAT THE SCHEDULE WILL LOOK LIKE.

HERE IS WHAT WE ARE PLANNING FOR:

FOR ALL PLAYERS - HUSKIES SKILLS MONTH
September 8 to October 8: HOLLYBURN HUSKIES SKILLS MONTH (U6-U9 divisions
will start on Monday, September 14);
October 9-12: 4-DAY FAMILY THANKSGIVING BREAK.

FOR REP PLAYERS after Thanksgiving Weekend
October 13-22: First round of rep tryouts;
October 23-Nov 1: Final round of rep tryouts. Teams must be selected on or before
November 1st. This allows for two weekends of exhibition games (if permitted);
November 2-March: Regular season & playoffs.
Dec 21-Jan 3, 2021: CHRISTMAS BREAK. Be prepared for games on Dec 19 & 20.

FOR HOUSE PLAYERS after Thanksgiving Weekend
October 13: Start of team practices which may include exhibition games;
November-January: Regular season games;
Dec 21-Jan 3, 2021: CHRISTMAS BREAK. Be prepared for games on Dec 19 & 20.
February-March: Playoffs.

FOR U6 TO U9 PLAYERS after Thanksgiving Weekend
October 13: Start of team practices and Monday development sessions;
November-March: Development, exhibition and regular season games.
Dec 21-Jan 3, 2021: CHRISTMAS BREAK. Be prepared for games on Dec 19 & 20.

HOLLYBURN HUSKIES SKILLS MONTH SEPT 8 to OCT 8!
We will endeavor to provide two weekly skills sessions per player per week. Huskies Skills Month will be included in your minor hockey registration fee and feature Hollyburn's rep and skills coaches. We will also provide additional "Club" programs where possible. A full month of skill development will help put players in a greater position to succeed on the ice! We're lucky to have such great hockey coaches AND role models at Hollyburn!

OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS AND BEST PRACTICES
  • Bubble visors recommended over cage visors;
  • Strictly of adhering to the Covid Safety Protocols;
  • No tournaments in October or November. The decision about tournaments beyond December will be made by PCAHA/BC Hockey by November 15th;
  • No scheduled games vs Washington-based teams for entire 2020/21 season;
  • A Covid safety e-learning module is being created by Hockey Canada and will be mandatory for all team officials (and maybe parents). More info to follow.

BENEFITS OF BEING AT HOLLYBURN
Member and Staff safety has and always will be the prioity. Everything we do has safety as the foremost priority.

At Hollyburn, we have the benefit of controlling two sheets of ice. IF there comes a point where viaSport and the health authorities restrict play to inter-association games only, we will be able to provide development opportunities AND create an in-house league in accordance with all health guidelines.

CLASS-LEADING INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR HOCKEY PLAYERS
Hockey Canada provides its members with an exceptional insurance program that has been built with the needs of its members in mind. When some sports weren't certain if they can offer a program because of Covid-related insurance implications, that was never an issue for Hockey Canada. PCAHA provides an additional layer of insurance coverage for all players in the Lower Mainland. All this insurance continues to be automatically included in you minor hockey registration fees. A link to Hockey Canada's Insurance Program can be found HERE.

A MESSAGE FROM THE HOCKEY DIRECTOR - ADAM HAYDUK
The collaboration and cooperation with all of our PCAHA association partners has been outstanding the last few months. This will be a season where we all will need to be nimble and flexible to successfully navigate the challenges we face. We will be presented with new procedures and expectations without any room for exceptions. I feel lucky to be at Hollyburn - a place where we've proven we can deliver a positive and safe hockey experience whatever the situation.

If at any point you or your child feel you may have Covid-19 symptoms, please do the right thing: stay home, go through the self-assessment procedures and call HealthLink BC at 8-1-1. Your child's position on a team will never be compromised for doing the right thing and keeping everyone else out of possible harm's way.

The above provides a brief outline of the season containing information current as of today. More details will follow as announcements are made by viaSport, BC Hockey, and Hockey Canada.

Our goal is to provide a schedule on or before August 24th for Hollyburn Huskies Skills Month and beyond.
